Designer sunglasses are not cheap to come by, in most cases costing upwards of $100. In this particular case, Oakley "M" Frame sunglasses cost $165.
It is common to find cheap imitation sunglasses in major cities and especially in tourist locations outside of the country. Usually these vendors are able to 'get away' with selling these items because they do not advertise them as if they were the real thing.
Mr. Watkins, however, was not so smart. Mr. Watkins advertises on his website that he sells these Oakley "M" Frame (registered trademark) Sunglasses for only $25. A private investigator contacted Mr. Watkins and set up a meeting in which he bought a pair for only $20. Later, this private investigator arranged for the purchase of 25 pairs at only $500.
Little did Mr. Watkins know, this private investigator was in contact with Oakley, and he could now face up to five years in prison, if convicted.
